Henry's First Parliament21 January 1510
Council Learned in the Law abolished. Statutes were passed that put the blame on previous administrators Empson and Dudley for the allegedly unjust fiscal policy during the reign of the new king’s father. Catherine MiscarriesCatherine is thought to have suffered two miscarriages this year, the first in February and probably another in May.
Treaty with France Renewed23 March 1510
Existing treaties lapsed with the death of the monarch, and therefore the renewal of a peace treaty with France to carry over into the new reign was signed by Richard Fox, Bishop of Winchester, Thomas Ruthall, Bishop of Durham, and Thomas Howard, Earl of Surrey. As is the Treaty with Spain24 May 1510

After the feast of Pentecost at Greenwich, from thence the whole Courte removed to Wyndcsore,then begynning his progresse, exercisyng hym selfe daily in shotyng, singing daunsyng, wrastelyng, casting of the barre, plaiyng at the recorders, flute, virginals, and in settyng of songes, makyng of ballettcs, and did set goodly masses, every of them fyvc partes, whiche were song oftentimes in hys chapel, and afterwardes in diverse other places. And whan he came to Okyng[Woking], there were kept bothe Justcs and Turneys the rest of thys progresse was spent in huntyng, hawkyng, and shotyng [sic]. The money men Richard Empsom and Edmund Dudley were executed on Tower Hill. 'By this action all the indignation of the people was appeased, and everyone was grateful to the monarch for the punishment of the evil pair.' |
