Maximilian Holy Roman Emperor Died

12  January 1519
Maximilian Habsburg, Holy Roman Emperor, died. There will be an election to crown a new Emperor.

Charles Ruled All of Burgundy

With the death of Maximilian, Burgundy was added to Charles’s inherited lands.

Fuggers the Bankers

Bankers handled remittances to the papal court of monies for the sale of indulgences and the procuring of church benefices and advanced loans in support of Charles

The Election Candidates 

Charles V and his arch-rival Francis I.
Henry VIII was introduced later as the compromise candidate. Fredrick of Saxony was also proposed. 

Aunt Margaret's Election Advice to Charles

9 March 1519. 
Margaret of Austria, Charles V’s aunt, imparted her written advice on how to be elected Holy Roman
Emperor.

Henry's Reprimand

Twenty-eight-year-old Henry was reprimanded by his councillors for keeping company with ‘young men in his privy chamber not regarding his estate nor degree, who were so familiar and homely with him, and played such light touches with him that they forget themselves. Which things although the king of his gentle nature suffered and not rebuked nor reproved the kings counsel thought it not mete to be suffered for the king’s honour.’
As a consequence of this, several of them were dismissed from court.

A Son for Henry VIII

Henry Fitzroy was born to the king and his mistress, Elizabeth Blount.

Victory for Charles, Elected Holy Roman Emperor

28 June 1519
Charles was unanimously elected King of the Romans, his official titled until crowned by the pope in a traditional ceremony. 
He would wait until February 1530 for that coronation.

Defeated Francis is Friendly to Henry

Francis proposed a meeting with Henry near Calais to demonstrate to Charles the friendship between the Kings of England and France. He proposed August or September but Wolsey, while receiving objections from Charles, decided that more time was needed to make arrangements and opted for the summer of the following year.
