The Northern Progress
The court left London for a tour of the north of England and arrived in York on 16 September where the king hoped that James V of Scotland would meet him. James did not arrived and so the royal entourage returned to Leconfield to continue the evaluation of the fortifications at the port of Hull. The king and queen left Hull to return to London on 6 October
Archbishop Cranmer’s Letter to Henry

At church, attending All Soul’s Day mass Henry opened a letter from Thomas Cranmer detailing Queen Catherine’s past exploits with secret lovers. Henry, at first, did not believe the tales but Catherine confessed and two men were named, Francis Dereham and Thomas Culpeper. Culpeper was a member of the privy chamber

Dereham and Culpeper Executed

Dereham and Culpeper were convicted of treason on 1 December and executed on 10 December. Culpeper was beheaded while Dereham was hanged, disembowelled, beheaded and quartered

Collusion with Jane Viscountess Rochford
Various member of Catherine’s family and several her associates were arrested, accused of concealing the queens secret activities however all were released except Jane Viscountess Rochford (Anne Boleyn’s sister in-law, widow of her brother George)
