Battle of Bicocca - French Flee Duchy of Milan

The Battle of Bicocca or La Bicocca (Italian: Battaglia della Bicocca) was fought on 27 April 1522, during the Italian War of 1521–26. A joint French and Venetian force under Odet de Foix, Vicomte de Lautrec, was defeated by a Spanish-Imperial and Papal army under the supreme command of Prospero Colonna. Lautrec then withdrew from Lombardy, leaving the Duchy of Milan in Imperial hands.

Henry agrees to have an army ready at Calais before 1 August and maintain it in the field until 31 October and Charles agreed to have forces available there to help Henry within six days of the landing.

Thomas Howard, Earl of Surrey, appointed to lead the military campaign in France lands at Calais on 9 August 1522. He linked up with Charles mercenaries from Netherlands on 2 September 1522 and laid waste to Picardy and besieged but did not take Hesdin.The agreement with Charles had been for English troops to ramain in the field until 31 October 1522 but widespread sickness, the weather and lack of supplies forced him to be back in Calais by 14 October 1522.
